Acrylic on panel. 16 x 12 inches.
The nose of a restored P-51D Mustang. Spotted on the ramp at an air show in 2013, this one really stood out because of its immaculately polished finish. A friend took a photo which served as the primary resource for this painting. It’s difficult (or impossible) to paint aircraft from life in many cases, because they usually don’t stand still for long, and airport personnel tend to frown on artists setting up easels, paint boxes, and shade umbrellas on their ramp. So photos are usually a primary reference for any aircraft artist.
This painting won First in its Category at the 2014 Sonoma County Fair.
